Acne affects almost everyone at some point in their lives. If you or someone you know has a serious case of acne, maybe it’s time to learn a little more about this skin disease. The following is some general information about acne.

Acne, a very common skin disease that usually comes in the form of pimples, whiteheads and/or blackheads, skin discolorations and rashes. Remember though, not all pimples or rashes are acne. When the oil glands in your hair follicles become blocked, usually due to dead skin cells, they start to produce sebum.

This oil (sebum) combined with the dead skin cells and the hair starts to produce bacteria and thus, acne shows up. The actual cause of acne is still not totally known but hormones, stress levels and hereditary factors are all being studied as to their roles in the formation of acne.

There are several different types of acne with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Acne may form on just about any part of your body but is most common on the face and back. Most of the time it’s more embarrassing than it is a threat to your health. Some cases are severe and a trip to the doctor is in order. If left untreated acne can sometimes leave behind ugly scars that may stay with you for life.

As far a acne cures go, there really is no single cure that will work for everyone. You may end up trying several different approaches to fight your acne problem before you find something that works for you. Everything from prescription medications to herbal treatments have been developed to fight acne.

Some medications do have side effects so it’s up to you to understand the risks before taking the medications. Many newer acne treatments contain 100% natural ingredients and don’t have any sever side effects. There are some great e-books available that will show you step by step how to cure your acne using only natural, herbal remedies.

Here are a few things not to do. Don’t wash the effected are too much. Acne is not caused by dirt and you will only dry out the area and make it worse. Don’t pop those pimples. That can result in an infection which will only make things worse. Oily makeup is not good for your skin at any time. Do some research and find a makeup brand that contains less oil. Your skin with thank you.
